This working group discusses the conceptualisation and strategy definition of ‘smart city’ and addresses the diverse range of smart city strategies and


•      continuing to develop the dialogue around cities dealing with the strategic definition of the smart city

•      creating synergies and supporting projects that specifically address the implementation of the smart city

•      understanding the diversity of smart city strategies and policies in Europe

•      supporting the transferral of successful non-European smart city experiences

•      improving networking with complementary networks supporting open innovation and open data, such as the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) and the Connected Smart Cities Network

•      contributing to other European Commission projects and activities around smart cities, future internet-based services for smart cities and the green digital agenda, including further work on our Green Digital Charter and our Networking Intelligent Cities for Energy Efficiency (NiCE) project

•      raising awareness within the European Commission of our activities around new trends and particularly the interest of cities in building the smart city

•      reinforcing our role as a representative exchange network of local public municipalities

•      ensuring that the city experience is fully represented in the development of wider EU policies and initiative, such as the smart cities and communities initiative
