This working group addresses issues of urban biodiversity and management related to green areas

In particular, group members exchange knowledge and best practices on:

  • raising awareness about the important role green areas and biodiversity play in:

    • improving city dwellers’ quality of life 

    • delivering ecosystem services that enable cultural and recreational activities, improve human health and help adapt to climate change

  • the value of ecosystem services and how to consider this in local policies

  • programmes, systems and tools for monitoring, maintaining and strengthening biodiversity, wildlife habitats and recreational qualities of green areas in order to ensure the functioning of urban ecosystems

  • integrated and innovative management related to green areas and the preservation and development of parks and gardens that often characterise the cultural heritage of European cities

  • initiatives on environmental education and the involvement of citizens in the management and recovery of green areas
