Mayors Adapt is the Covenant of Mayors initiative on urban adaptation to climate change.
Mayors Adapt is an initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate General Climate Action to engage and support cities in adapting to climate change. It is launched in the context of the EU Adaptation Strategy and is implemented within the Covenant of Mayors, the flagship European initiative for cities to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
By signing up to Mayors Adapt, local authorities commit to contributing to the overall aim of the EU Adaptation Strategy and creating a more climate-resilient Europe by either developing a comprehensive local adaptation strategy or by integrating adaptation to climate change into relevant existing plans within two years of joining.
The initiative supports signatories with developing their adaptation activities, showcases their achievements, and provides a platform for greater engagement and networking.
Since 15 October 2015, The Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt are progressively being integrated into a New Integrated Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.
Mayors Adapt is supported by the European Environment Agency (EEA).
EUROCITIES is part of the Mayors Adapt consortium together with Ecofys, Climate Alliance, CEMR, Fresh Thoughts and IFOK.
