Urban dialogues: a new partnership

We have teamed up with The Centre, Edelman Brussels’ forum for debate, for a series of events focusing on some of the big policy issues for cities. The first event, taking place on 12 May, will focus on 'tackling unemployment with Europe's cities'. The event is closely linked to our declaration on work, launched at the end of February, and will explore ways of working in partnership with cities to tackle unemployment and produce results more quickly.

Cities for accessibility, jobs and inclusion conference

Lisbon, Berlin and EUROCITIES are teaming up to host a conference on accessibility and its impact on the economy, jobs, social inclusion and active ageing: ‘Cities for accessibility, jobs and inclusion - breaking down barriers together’. The conference will explore how the EU, national, regional and local levels can steer the accessibility agenda together in order to promote employment, social inclusion and active ageing.

EFSI: five points from an urban perspective

Our statement on the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) outlines five points that we believe should be taken into account to realise the full potential of cities in implementing the fund. Boosting investment in support of jobs and growth is a responsibility shared by all levels of government. We believe that cities, as drivers of sustainable economic development, jobs and innovation, should place a key role in EFSI, which is designed to mobilise €315 billion in private and public investment across the EU.

Cities in action: Vilnius's interactive energy classification map

Our latest 'cities in action' case study looks at how Vilnius is raising awareness of energy efficiency in apartment blocks using an interactive online map. The map allows citizens to compare the energy performance of their buildings with similar buildings. The initiative is designed to encourage homeowner associations of the city's many apartment blocks to consider energy efficiency refurbishment measures, with studies showing that such measures could improve efficiency by up to 50%.
