The European Commission today launched the new Urban Innovative Actions call, worth a total of €80 million.

The European Commission’s Directorate General Regional and Urban Policy today launched the first call of the Urban Innovative Actions initiative (UIA). This call will be worth a total of €80 million and will focus on the following four topics:

  • energy transition

  • urban poverty (with a focus on deprived urban neighbourhoods)

  • inclusion of migrants and refugees

  • jobs and skills in the local economy

The Commission is organising four information events across the EU (in Brussels, Riga, Rome and Krakow) in January/February 2016 to ensure that cities and relevant stakeholders are fully aware of the call.

The first of these events will be held in Brussels on 13 January 2016. You can register here. Registration for the other three events will open in the coming days.

EUROCITIES is also hosting an information webinar on 14 January to give members the opportunity to ask Raffaele Barbato, project coordinator at the UIA secretariat, questions on the possible formats and themes of their project proposals. If you are a EUROCITIES member and would like to participate or have specific questions, please contact Anja de Cunto at the details provided.

The UIA has been created to test new approaches to the challenges faced by urban authorities. The total budget is €371m over the period 2015-2020. Projects will be selected through calls for proposals with an ERDF contribution which shall not exceed €5m per project, a unique co-financing rate of maximum 80% and duration of three years maximum.

If you have any questions or you require further information regarding UIA, please visit the newly created website at the following link: http://www.uia-initiative.eu/
