Every two years the League of Historical Cities invites for a world conference. In 2016, Bad Ischl will be the host city. The conference programme also includes visits to Vienna, Salzburg and Hallstatt.
Under the theme "Smart, innovative, creative historical cities of the future", the conference organisers aim to bring together representatives from historical cities and sites on all continents. The three sub-themes of the conference will focus on:
- Development of tourism to promote city identity
- Creating liveable smart historical cities
- Engaging citizens including young people to plan for the future
The main event will be held in Bad Ischl on 7-9 June. Bad Ischl is located in the centre of Austria and in the heart of the historically important Salzkammergut region. Salzburg Airport is less than one hour away from the main conference venue. The pre-conference programme in Vienna will take place on 5-6 June, the post-conference programme in Salzburg on 10 June.
