ROCK (Regeneration and Optimisation of Cultural heritage in creative and Knowledge cities) is a Horizon 2020 co-funded project led by the city of Bologna, with EUROCITIES as a partner. ROCK aims to support the transformation of the historic city centre into a creative and sustainable district

ROCK (Regeneration and Optimisation of Cultural heritage in creative and Knowledge cities)

Led by the city of Bologna, ROCK involves EUROCITIES, 10 large European cities (Bologna, Lisbon, Skopje, Turin, Lyon, Cluj, Athens, Vilnius, Liverpool, Eindhoven, all EUROCITIES members) and various partners (universities, private companies). ROCK aims to develop an innovative, collaborative and circular approach for the regeneration and adaptive reuse of historic city centres.

ROCK focuses on historic centres as laboratories to demonstrate how cultural heritage can be a unique and powerful engine of regeneration, sustainable development and economic growth for the entire city.

Implementing a repertoire of successful heritage-led regeneration initiatives, the project will test the replicability of the spatial approach and of successful models addressing the specific needs of historic city centres.

ROCK will deliver new ways to access and experience cultural heritage in cities, ensuring sound environmental solutions, city branding, bottom-up participation, while increasing liveability and safety in the involved areas.

EUROCITIES is responsible for the organisation of peer-learning activities with cities taking part in the project: mentoring, work-shadowing, exchange workshops, webinars, etc.

Co-funded by the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Union, ROCK started in May 2017 and will last until December 2020.
