Lahti Energy Choice: supporting citizens’ choices for more energy efficient buildings

The project ‘Energy Choice’, was launched by the city of Lahti in 2016 to encourage citizens to renovate their properties through providing information on the potential financial and CO2 savings as a result of adopting energy-efficient solutions.

Mur|Mur : Retrofitting private buildings to reduce energy consumption

Mur|Mur is a major private housing renovation scheme developed by Grenoble Metropole. The first campaign aimed at reducing energy consumption through the retrofitting of condominiums built between 1945 and 1975. 4,467 dwellings in 84 condominiums were renovated, and in total 173 condominiums benefited from tailored support because of Mur|Mur from 2010 to 2014. The renovations resulted in 5,200 tonnes of saved CO2 emissions, which translates to savings of €135-250 per year.

Antwerp - The Big Link

In 2016 Antwerp introduced innovative governance methods to overcome public opposition to a ring road extension project. The resulting co-created plan to cover over the road not only resolves citizens’ main objection by reducing pollution from the motorway. It also creates new green spaces for communities and a more cohesive and connected city.

Bristol has taken community engagement to the next level to encourage and enable citizens to test tomorrow’s energy technology today. Its co-developed smart appliances project is helping households save money, communities build capacity and the city explore new energy systems and their impact on fuel poverty and carbon emissions.

No debts for energy in Almere
