KSF organises a side event for Smart City Live 2020 to discuss the relation between EU digital policy developments and the role of ICT managers in the city.
CIOs as linch pins: bridging IT and European digital policy for smart cities
The extensive digital agenda of the European Commission provides both challenges and opportunities for smart cities. In this session, Eurocities’ KSF discusses the role of CIOs to address European digital policies in a local context.
The twinning of the green and digital transformation, excellence and trust in Artificial Intelligence, development of new digital identity frameworks, governance on common European data spaces and the roll-out of novel infrastructures such as 5G: European legislative initiatives on digital topics relevant to our cities are numerous and complex. They are meant to improve research opportunities for academics, improve European competitiveness, create new business opportunities or enable better services for citizens.
How do these initiatives relate to the management of a city’s IT services or the implementation of IT projects? What should be the role of the smart city CIO in bridging IT and these European digital policy initiatives?
