Jon our online WG meeting at 10.30 CET to discuss and exchange with fellow cities on key strategies and measures to support the elderly in times of COVID-19.
The current COVID-19 pandemic is taking a disproportionate toll on elderly people across Europe. This is exacerbated by structural factors such as urban density as well as health-related conditions such as chronic disease and co-morbidities. In addition, the emergency situation has put health systems under strain, leading to disruptions in continuity of essential health and long-term care services. Mental health conditions and especially loneliness have become an ever more visible issue in the context of protracted lock-down and infection control measures. In this context, cities and local governments have been on the frontline of responding to the public health emergency, providing essential services, redeploying municipal services to meet the increasing demand, providing psychosocial support, organising logistics and raise awareness of the situation and key measures among citizens.
We are organising this meeting to exchange on measures and strategies with specific focus on support to elderly people during the crisis as well as in the key phases of the COVID-19 transition.
The meeting will be structured as follows:
• 10.30 – 10.45 Introduction by EUROCITIES and welcome by WG Chair and Vice-Chair
• 10.45 – 11.15 Updates from EUROCITIES and EU level with focus on COVID19 recovery and health
• 11.15 – 12.20 City exchange on measures in the context of COVID19 targeting elderly residents
• 12.20 – 12.30 AOB and ways ahead for the Working Group
