On 6 June, EUROCITIES housing working group is meeting in Lyon. The first part of the event will provide participants detailed information on the social housing challenges and threats in Lyon, the latest updates on housing at EU level, especially on the implementation of EU Urban Agenda – Housing Action plan, latest EUROCITIES initiatives and to engage in a debate on regulating private rental. In the second part of the day, participants will engage in a debate on the topic of private rent regulations and possible ways of addressing it in different contexts. The session will offer the opportunity for participants to learn and share solutions on rental reforms in European cities like Barcelona, Vienna and Berlin. New York City’s deputy chief of staff and development, Elena Sytcheva, will present the rent regulation system and will engage in a debate with the European cities on the challenges and successful factors in addressing this topic.
During the week 4-7 of June, Lyon is the heart of social housing as the city is hosting the International Social Housing Festival (ISHF). During this festival, Lyon will launch a statement for a renewal of social housing and it will showcase different projects on the topic, such as the ‘Home Silk Road – Housing toward empowerment’ initiative supported by the Urban Innovative Action. The meeting of housing WG meeting is one of the side events of the festival but it is also part of the European Metropolitan Areas Forum.
