Our mobility forum promotes clean and sustainable urban mobility, and aims to raise awareness of the contributions being made and challenges met at local level

The increasing volume of road traffic in urban areas leads to a wide range of problems: congestion and accidents, air pollution and noise, harm to the environment and to citizens' health.

Our members are committed to promoting more sustainable and integrated urban transport systems, providing citizens with convenient and accessible public transport, and protecting the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

2019-2020 priorities

  • Connected mobility: this priority covers the issues of data collection & management, MaaS (Mobility as a Service) and new shared mobility services (e-scooters, e-bikes, ridesharing, etc.); thanks to discussion and exchange of experiences, members could possibly find common approaches to legislation.
  • Road safety: with the creation of the position of “European Coordinator for Road Safety” in October 2018, the European Commission has given a strong message towards road safety issues and its objectives to coordinate road safety efforts with Member States. EUROCITIES will strive to contribute to the discussions by working with members on the general safety regulations and related issues, the exchange of good practice is also a key component of our activities.
  • Transport decarbonisation: through this priority, the topics of air quality, low emission zone and climate change from a mobility perspective will be covered. EUROCITIES work follow the lines of our response to the decarbonisation strategy ‘A vision towards a carbon neutral Europe’ (November 2018) which will take the form of a position statement on climate ambitions (2030 and 2050) developed together with the Environment forum early 2019.
  • Human-centred approach of mobility: How to put citizen back at the heart of discussions with adopting a user perspective and integrating other dimensions: health, social aspect, citizen participation, etc.
  • Inter- and cross-border connectivity, in line with the priorities of the EU Romanian Presidency (January-June 2019) interconnectivity and accessibility will be high on the agenda. This priority will cover the work related to TEN-T policy (CEF 2.0, Smart TEN-T regulation and revision of the Combined Transport Directive for the development of intermodal freight transport infrastructure) and the question of commuters’ access.
